Well thank God, she finally realized that she can't escape her past, no matter how hard she tries, it'll always be there.
Nobody in her fanbase even cares about her past as HM so why ignore it?

I don't think it was her just trying to escape it because she said she knows she'd be nowhere without HM, but she said she also feels like she's starting as new artist because she can do and make the music she wants

What is wrong with that though?
I know tons of people who still own their teddybear from when they were little and they aren't mentally stuck?
That's called A MEMORY, you're not mentally stuck if you own or acknowledge something from your past.
Only immature people want to ignore something from their childhood to pretend that they're 'all grown up'.

And her real fans would have followed her anyway so...
