Can't say that I LOVE hockey, but I'm hopeful that this series will be the first of many things to save the NHL and push it towards the big three again.
I'll predict that Detroit will win to jinx them, because, if the NHL wants to become prominent again, Pittsburgh NEEDS to win.

Game 1: Pittsburgh 0, Detroit 4 [1-0, DET]
Samuelsson powers Red Wings to Game 1 win
DETROIT – An unassisted goal is an anathema to a team built on collective success like the Detroit Red Wings. But two unassisted goals off the stick of Mikael Samuelsson lifted the Wings to a 4-0 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final Saturday night at Joe Louis Arena.
Samuelsson netted the game-winning goal at 13:01 of the second period and added some insurance at 2:16 of the third period to get the Wings off to a strong start.

Game 2: Pittsburgh 0, Detroit 3 [2-0, DET]
Wings extend shutout streak, Pens' misery in Game 2
DETROIT – The Pittsburgh Penguins had a Memorial Day weekend in Detroit they would just as soon forget.
The Detroit Red Wings jumped to a 2-0 series lead in the Stanley Cup Final with a 3-0 win in Game 2 that did nothing to raise the Penguins' confidence or lower their blood pressure.
Brad Stuart and Tomas Holmstrom scored first-period goals and Valtteri Filppula added a third-period goal to ensure the victory for goalie Chris Osgood, who posted his second straight shutout.
"No, but we were hoping to have back-to-back wins," Babcock said when asked if he expected back-to-back shutouts. "I think it's real important you look after home ice. Nothing's happening in a series until you've won on the road, after you've looked after business at home. So they're going to get regrouped and they're going to have their best effort and we gotta have our best effort in Game 3."
Few can argue with the results after seeing the first two games of the series. The series now shifts to Pittsburgh's Mellon Arena Wednesday (8 p.m. ET, NBC, CBC, RDS, NHL Radio) where the Pens, out-shot 34-22 on Monday, hope to be every bit as inhospitable as the Wings were for Games 1 and 2.
Filppula is the most challenging name in the NHL to type and he proved to be one of the most challenging to stop at 8:48 of the third period when he scored to give the Wings a 3-0 lead.

Game 3: Detroit 2, Pittsburgh 3 [2-1, DET]
Crosby's heroics carry Pittsburgh back into Stanley Cup Final
PITTSBURGH – The old cliché says your best players have to be at their best when the chips are down.
Sidney Crosby turned that cliché into reality Wednesday night in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final. Trailing the Detroit Red Wings 2-0 in the Stanley Cup Final, the Penguins couldn’t afford to lose.
And thanks to “Sid the Kid,” they didn’t. Crosby not only scored the Penguins’ first two goals of the game, but their first two of the entire series to lift the Penguins to a 3-2 win and put Pittsburgh right back into the series.
“I think it was desperation,” Crosby said. “I wanted to make sure personally I had a good game. I think we all believed that if we put our best game out there, we gave ourselves a good chance. But personally, you just want to make sure you're leading by example and doing your job out there. And that's all I was basically trying to do.
“I mean, it's not hard to get up for a game this big, especially in the Stanley Cup Final.”
Next Game: Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final is Saturday night (8 p.m. ET, NBC, CBC, RDS, NHL Radio).

Game 4: Detroit 2, Pittsburgh 1 [3-1, DET]
Red Wings grab 3-1 series lead
PITTSBURGH – The Detroit Red Wings now have a 3-1 stranglehold on the 2008 Stanley Cup Final thanks to Saturday night’s 2-1 win at Mellon Arena that saw the Wings frustrate the Pittsburgh Penguins at nearly every turn, especially in the third period when the Wings denied a 5-on-3 Penguins power play for 1:26.

Last night was one of the best hockey games I've ever seen. Penguins pulled it out in triple OT and live to play again on Wednesday. Sykora, who actually called that he was going to score, won the game in the third OT.

That was a ridiculous last 3 seconds. Chris Osgood should attack his teammates for letting such a great scoring chance in the last 3 seconds.
