The lowdown: If the whole pop star thing doesn’t work out, Katy could have a nice second career as a CeCe Peniston tribute act. This house-pop club track about sexual ecstasy sounds straight of 1992, including that post-chorus refrain with vocals distorted to resemble a bellowing black woman. I, of course, mean this as the highest compliment. “Walking On Air” may not be wholly original, but better that Katy, ahem, draw inspiration from an all-time classic like “Finally” than her own increasingly tired Dr. Luke productions. When you fly this close to the sun without getting burned, what you get is the highlight of Prism.
ATRL says...: "The chorus is possibly the closest she's come to recapturing the perfection of 'Teenage Dream,'" JakeKills proclaimed. "Katy's at her best when she tries to emulate someone else's pop music," adrianbeane wrote. Himeros thought "the '90s Euro-disco production is a breath of fresh air amongst the other songs." Edge of Glory called it "one of the most vividly fun songs in her catalog." Penk praised Klas Åhlund's production. "She did 90s deep house justice," said Dark Miracles. But lovesong felt it was "very cheesy and dated" and J. YONCÉ compared it to "an SNL parody of gay house music." AriNikoBradshaw thought it was "booooooooooorrrrrrrrrinnnnnnnnnnngggggggg." August offered a backhanded compliment: "The antithesis of having a choir-sounding hook that reminds me of church on the gayest song that has ever existed is the most profound thought on the entirety of Prism."
Best bit:"Finally, it has happened to me/Right in front of my face and I just cannot hide it" "Toniiight, toniiight, toniiight, I'm walking on air"
Gypsy is awful. So glad it's finally out Best produced and written sans DWUW, but that doesn't mean I shall ever like it again
The damn bridge so stole from "Last Time" and I will never let that go
