What's wrong with playing it safe? It seems to work just fine for artists like Taylor and Katy.Taylor did change her style up a bit on Red. She became less country and more pop. When an artist changes too much too fast it usually backfires. Everyone sees how well taking huge risks has done for Gaga's career.
Gaga hasn't even taken many musical risks herself. The only non-dance pop song she's ever released as a single was You and I, and it bombed outside of North America.
