Jade Kozicka loves her long locks – but she has decided to sacrifice them to raise money for a neonatal unit that saved her younger brother's life.
Twelve-year-old Jade, of Huncote, is having her head shaved to say "thank you'' to the experts at Leicester Royal Infirmary who saved younger brother Kyle Kozicki after he was born three months premature in February, 2006, weighing just 2lb 3oz (1kg).
On March 29, Jade's hair – which is half-way down her back – will be shaved off.
Jade said she was excited and nervous about having her hair shaved off, but said she thought it was worth it to raise money for good causes.
"There will be days when I'm not happy about having short hair," she said.
Jade is thinking of going for a style similar to singer Emeli Sandé's when her hair starts to grow and will sometimes wear a wig for school.
The head-shave is part of a day of fund-raising at Huncote Community Primary School, organised by the whole family.
From midday to 4pm there will be cream teas and cake stands. From 7pm to 11pm, there will be events, including a disco, a raffle and Jade's head-shave at 8pm.
