Whats wrong with referendum? More than 60% of population of Crimea are Russians (not all of them agree with what Russia is doing there tho) and only 25% are Ukrainians. Russian media just like western and Ukrainian media are biased, but dont worry, I think people who live there know the best what is going on and have their opinion on the situation. The referendum would solve this. BUT they should ensure that either Russians or Ukrainian government and extremists can not manipulate with the results, and thats really the hardest part. Its almost impossible task imo.

The problem is that most of the people there welcomed and supported the russian "occupation", they are not even trying to fight, thanks to the mostly pro-Russian feelings in the area. Crimea wanted more autonomy before this happened.

Then why did Russia invade if they were so sure to win the referendum? Crimea was already autonomous and would have voted anyways...

Thats what I dont understand either. Something is going on behind the closed doors imo. Its kind of sad to watch how desperate Putin is, because Russia is loosing important alies and power (geopolitics, you know).

I doubt this will escalate into a full on World War, but there have been many eerie parallels to the events prior to World War 2...

1993: economic depression caused by Wall Street crash

1939: Six years later, Germany invades Poland and France + England declare war

2008: economic depression caused by Wall Street crash

2014: Six years later, Russia invades Ukraine and....?

And there is also Russia having annexed Georgia a few years ago just like Germany annexed Austria a few years before the war began. I know there are way more variables involved and both situations are very different but history is cyclical after all.
