No. And same goes for any contact other than face-to-face. I don't care if it's an LDR, it's so disrespectful to that person, it's like you had to throw them away as soon as possible with any means possible.
It depends on the seriousness of the relationship. If you've only been dating for less then like 2 weeks it's not to bad to do it over text but over that it should be done face-to-face.
I've done it once. We've once been "together" only for 3 weeks, so I didn't care that much. I found out he was a cheater, so I just told him about it by text immediately. He apologized and didn't make any drama out of it. He even tried to get back with me a few years later.
But overall, It's not something nice to do, especially if there's history between you.

It depends what the relationship has come to and how the feelings are. If it's a long term relationship but one partner has been constantly getting ignored by the other and feels there's no hope, it's not disrespectful because the other person clearly didn't respect the relationship.
If it's out of nowhere when everything was thought to be good that's when it becomes unacceptable.
An absolutely classless, disgusting, cowardly thing to do, unless you have a legitimate reason (like fearing violence and not wanting to be there in person).
