Yeah you're right that he only wants Crimea, and also it kinda makes sense because majority of people there are Russians. Russia should never even given Crimea to Ukraine but during Soviet Union times it made sense because they wanted that all soviet republics would have a sizable Russians minority in them

But they did and they should respect Ukrainian country sovereignity along to international agreements. In many border lands there live people of different nationality. Its no reason to occupy this land by other country. Especially in modern times where international diplomatic deals should be respected

They are acing against all protocols and international regulations. Most of the westers countries the countries would turn their back and stop any trade with Russia

Yes, but Georgia and the U.S. have a very strong alliance with each other/Georgia wanted the U.S. to get involved. Georgia contributed the third largest amount of troops to Iraq, which is amazing considering how small the country is. Our efforts in Georgia didnt involve troops either, just aid for the most part.

I don't personally think that the U.S. is over involving itself yet. Ultimately Putin cares a lot more about the Ukraine than the U.S. does and Obama recognizes that. If there are troops deployed in Ukraine I am guessing most troops would come from the European Union with NATO equipment/technology being used.

Western countries better support Ukraine and hopefully not only with empty words.

No Western country will offer an iota of military assistance. Whether any economic sanctions will be placed on Russia is questionable at best, and the West still hasn't even been able to get together any sort of aide for the soon to collapse finances of the Ukrainian government.

All this bluster from Western capitals is sad, because at the end of the day it gives the Ukrainians the impression that maybe they will be saved, and that isn't even remotely correct.

Russia's primary exports are gas and oil, so stopping trade with them is doubtful unless we start exploring alternative energy sources.

Actually, it is the opposite. Russian oil only constitutes around 4% of total oil imports for the U.S. at least. So stopping oil trade would not hurt the U.S. or Russia has much as the U.S. would probably like. Russians would be able to sell those other barrels elsewhere and the U.S. would be able to get them elsewhere as well.

As I understand U.S is becoming energy independent due to the enormous shale gas reserves. Correct me if wrong tho!

The energy market is global. Russia's main buyers are the Europeans, not the US.

That's exactly my point. Even if some western countries shut down trade with Russia, others, those who don't have the resources to trade with other oil/gas selling countries, will choose to side with Russia.
