Fast forward to now I think the hardest thing as a gay man is your experiences with your first love. For me it was the realization that as a gay man it will be harder to find a long-term relationship. One possibly to spend the rest of my life with. My first love made me realize my own demise as a gay man is the reality of our stereotypes. Promiscuity, and the drive for bigger better things. etc. I may be a bit hostile when it comes to my opinions against my lifestyle but its a decision I've made through my own observations.
