Atheism is extremism by definition considering they're rejecting all religion/deities for lack of logic and evidence, whereas there's a much larger scope of theism so they are less likely to be extremists. Theists range from mentally unstable to very passive agnostics, with atheists it just depends on what their personality is (rude, obnoxious, respectful or private etc) because they're all on the same(ish) page opinion wise.

Both, but perhaps more so in opinion. In general I just find it ironic how atheists are practically a mirror image to religious extremists despite trying so hard to be the opposite.
Neither are in my favor, but both sides tend to share the same characteristics: stubborn, annoying, snarky, rude, close-minded, impatient, etc. ; both are cut from the same cloth
