Arabs invaded Byzantium in 634 ( more than 400 years before the Crusades) , capturedDamascus in 635 , Jerusalem in 638( The Holy City of Christianity and Judaism) then Spain in 711 , atacked France , plundered and terrorized southern Italy for decades , atacked and sacked Neaples and even Rome where the sacked the holy Basilica's and desecrated the tombs of St Paul and Peter . They atacked Constantinople many times , and plundered and terrorized Byzantium for centuries .
Then the Crusades happened . They were horrible but put it in context next time
