To those who save like wtf do you do. I have my checking and savings with the same bank, and its like if i dont have money in my checkings im like LOL well lemme do a quick transfer from savings to checking and im good!
I am the money saver of my family and I am the baby, 21 years old.
Everyone SUCKS at it. They call me "cheap" and a "money hoarder" but they should take notes from me. The job I have now is lucrative but for last year, with bills, taxes, food to pay and a minimum wage job, I saved a little over $4000. My siblings and family will be lucky to even have $500 in their bank accounts, which is precisely why I'm taking accounting major in the fall, because handling money is my specialty. With the job I have now, i should be able to save between $6000 to $8000 this year if I manage it the same way.
In the summer of 2012 I saved up close to $3500 for my three week trip to Ecuador. I also saved enough for my vaccinations and about $1300 spending money there.
Last year in the summer of 2013 I saved up $9000 for my two week trip to Nicaragua and three week trip to Kenya. I also had to spend about $250 on vaccinations and saved about $600 spending money for each trip.
Right now I have no money in my account because I'm paying off a $1000 truck debt from my accident, and my credit card which was at $1000 (Used it for University applications and Christmas gifts).
Stay away from the useless disposable crap (Starbucks, convenience stores, take out ect) that will take a couple hundred from your account monthly easily.
My weakness though is the expensive stuff, blew 5k on a imac/macbook, a couple thousand on a Burberry coat, scarfs, and a umbrella last year with some other occasional big purchases
I'm amazing at saving money. What I do is I save and save and save, and then I blow it all at one time and start the whole process over again. Right now I have 4K from less then a year of working a part time job. I have more in my checking account then my mother does atm. I can't wait until I hit 10K
