Ok so i know I've probably posted more than anyone in this thread. But seriously this album is a major
CHECKMATE
The album is an uplifting, thoughtful, well executed R&B album. She definitely stepped up her game on this and delivered massively.
It's packed full of highlight after highlight.. Ashanti definitely deserves support for this, NO OTHER R&B female has shown as much growth as she has vocally and sound wise, she has evolved since The Declaration which IMO was inconsistent as a start to finish album.. This on the other hand commands attention with thoughtful lyrics, sonically engaging vocals and strong production. She has stepped out of her comfort zone here and its a SOLID conceptual album that deserves recognition.
- Nowhere - AMAZING spring/ summer BOP!
- Runaway - Giving me Mary J teas on this one here. Its a hard hitting Hip Hop/ R&B anthem!!
- Count - AMAZING - Club banger, intoxicating, hard hitting.
- Early In The Morning - sexy midtempo with great vocals and stunning instrumental.
- Love Games - AMAZING - Another sexy midtempo, with assistance by Jeremih. Sexy, Hot and defo a highlight.
- Scars - AMAZING - No words. Its just AMAZING.
- Never Should Have - Still a bop! A nice attempt to make conceptual R&B ballad.. Again Great vocals shine over a satisfying instrumental.
- Don't Tell Me No - Hands down the best song Ashanti has ever recorded and the albums strongest song. Its FRESH, Unique and totally CUTE! A MUST HEAR!!!
Funny enough the weakest tracks are the singles... With the exception of Never Should Have which i still adore and deserved SO much more.
Overall you could call the album abit dated, but whats got to be remembered is that good music never dies.
