Except for shows with good moderators and good content, radio has seriously lost its appeal and its cause. The only ones who still use it on a large scale are malls (for upbeat, encouraging backdrop music during your shopping spree, lmao), on occasion some companies in the work environment, and that's about it off the top of my head.
In the private sector, mostly only older and/or really lazy people I think. There are in fact a lot of people who don't care enough to look and pay for music themselves and just turn on the radio when they want to listen to some.
Radio is a dying medium, although very slowly so.
EDIT: Want to correct myself: I think radio is a SHRINKING medium, but it will never die. The kind of people who just want to turn on a device and be able to listen to any easy-listening kind of music will always exist.
