but that's what Pandora, Spotify and iTunes Radio are for, with SO much more quality and something from this century

Well when people are driving to and from work, which happens to be all the time, I doubt they're flicking through Spotify and iTunes radio. Radio is easy, simple, featuring popular music that the masses are liking, new artists that people haven't heard yet, and talk shows which pretty much act as audio tabloids, which often happen to feature audios with various artists.
Streaming is cool from home but it's a hassle outside, in the car, etc.

Not so much. I discover all my new music/artists online.
The radio is more so a platform to hear the same 5 or 6 songs over and over all day long.

I discover most of my artists online too but remember that the masses are generally casual music fans.
Meaning a lot of things are new to them.
The last sentence is also true but radio is catered to the masses, meaning their favourite songs are being played all the time too.
