Why are people surprised? The Nintendo WiFi Connection service is 9 years old (first used in 2005) and the new iterations of the defunct games are coming out pretty soon. Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros, and Pokemon are basically the only games people still use online anyway and the next installments are coming in the next few months. It's time to upgrade.

Netflix isn't a Nintendo game y'all.

The service will still be available, they're just transitioning and discontinuing game servers.
