It really is funny how melodramatic stans get.
The truth is that nobody really cares about popstars. The "GP" enjoy them casually and will pay attention when something high profile happens...but that's it. They don't know sales, charts or stats. They don't debate who the best/queen is. They don't care enough to "hate" anyone. If they don't like what you're selling, they just tune out until they do. They don't hold grudges and ignore all future releases.
Gaga is FINE. She will be a very profitable act for Interscope to have considering the low creative spend to high profit ratio. She even pays for some of her props, staging and videos. Promotion will be the big spend for them and they can dial that back depending.
In terms of popularity - she can make a comeback. All it takes is the right song and striking at the right time. Artists have majorly returned from much more desperate situations than simply being a bit too annoying/odd.
