sucks for XL because 212 was kinda big and would have been bigger if they pushed her out there.

sucks for AB because XL is known for housing more talented artists than most labels.

sucks for us because we could have had BWET by now if they'd just trusted in one song.

Independent Label doesn't mean the artist or band is 100% "independent." There's still label heads who have to pick what they pay to get distributed. It's still a business. Really, the only difference is creative freedom but even that can get a little grey.

And it was probably the right decision for them. Azealia faded faster than anyone could have predicted. It's a shame considering how much potential she had. It's sad to think that she really could have been as big as she thinks she is.

She only faded because she was horribly mismanaged.

XL is one of the top record labels, had they actually worked with her on 212 instead of dropping her, she would've probably put out BWET by fall 2012 to critical acclaim and some decent commercial success.

That's a shame. But I really don't think Azealia is over yet. Not even close actually.

The thing is that ATRL and other music forums may be sick of her because of her personality and the constant pushbacks of her singles/ albums, but 99% of the GP still has no idea who she is, so she can still start fresh as a new artist when she finds the right label and the right attitude.

She faded because none of her other material that she released lived up to 212 and her attitude turned off the few hardcore fans she did have. And plus, many of her fans were hipsters who forgot about her, or bored Gaga stans waiting for ARTPOP.

She wasn't mismanaged in the beginning, in fact they did many things right for her. She did all of the usual festival appearances, NME promo etc that someone of her caliber would do. Obviously she is being mismanaged now but that is largely due to the mess she's created herself. The record label don't know how to market her because her attitude has stopped the music industry from taking her seriously, and many of her fans stopped responding well to the direction her music took after 212.

Despite this, I am a fan and look forward to BWET whenever it comes/if it comes.
