I'm not just talking about pop girls but in real life, it seems they just stop thinking and go into automatic stepford servant mode for an irrational women that displays some semblance of power. What are the root causes? Would love to hear your perspectives.

Because those powerful women represent everything they wish they could be but (physically) cannot. Hence they live through them.
Its kinda sad really.

I don't speak for myself, but for the ones that DO do that I THINK it's because both may have faced adversity.

The powerful women I admire (Hilary Clinton, Madonna, Helen Clark, Oprah etc.) have just had to fight off so many more battles than their male counterparts. I mean for when Hilary was running for presidency, she'd have been the first woman. Madonna is susceptible to hideous ageism her male counterparts don't receive. Helen Clark (former NZ prime minister & now key UN player) was endlessly ridiculed on her looks, and Oprah well... what didn't she have to fight against what with race, class, gender and the media?

I think that for every woman that has fought to establish and assert themselves in a place of power, there are ten men who have achieved similar achievements with far less struggle. They've had to work so much harder to get where they are. (generally) And are always, at some point, called a bitch. *sings "Hard Out Here"*

Maybe it's something to do with both gay guys and females fighting off oppression from straight males? That in this world, straight men are the ones with the power and so gays guys identify with women who are trying to make it to their level?

You make it sound like women suffer more than gays. Gays are way more discriminated against. If it's adversity why doesn't a gay connect with a martyr gay more? Instead it's always some obnoxious woman and they'd throw the gay under the bus. That's why *** hags exist and are multiplying in alarming numbers.

Feminism is allowed it's time in the sun alongside the gay movement. It doesn't have to be one or the other. Those are awful generalizations.

Yes it's true that an out gay man will face more discrimination then a woman but gay men can hide their gayness while women can't really hide their womanliness as easily. It's not the same thing and that's not what you asked in the OP so I don't know why you're going off topic here.

Because gays suffer from the same gender stereotypes women suffer from. When a woman breaks out of these stereotypes, its kinda like a win for both. Gays are stereotypically treated and looked at like a female, and the definition of a feminine woman (or a gay) by society is a woman who relies on men, isn't independent or strong and can't function on her own without the help of a masculine man.

Just a thought. I'm just thinking of gay programming on tv. Logo is not as big of a hit as Bravo, which shows more "obnoxious woman" programming and gays seem to eat bravo up more. Instead of supporting their own on Logo.

I don't think you should open up an argument that women are more discriminated than gays. It's pointless because ultimately both women & gay people are discriminated against in both similar & different ways.

We still live in a world where women with high executive positions are paid like 70% of what men with these same positions are paid. Discrimination against women isn't as open as it used to be, but it's still there.

Because it all comes from the same sense of suffering????

Like from that madonna song, like how can a girl wearing guy clothes be at least okay be a guy wearing girl clothes is looked down upon - we in a sense still find women lesser then men.

so we look to strong women because they (economics concept) are shifting the whole curve (margin and all) forward so we benefit from them as well as them benefiting from it.

Right + they also seem to resent (powerful) men in general, yet praise/admire women with similar/worse qualities.
