Labradors! They are the best family dogs, we have always had one. My two when I was really little were a cream lab (yes they exist) and a black lab, Belle and Lacey, then I had my Molly who was also black, I had her from I was 9-19, she died too young because of cancer and it broke my heart. Now I have a gold/reddish lab called Cara and she is my baby, my friends refer to her as my toddler.
She really is a big baby.

I spend a lot of time in the US with my boyfriend and the only thing that ensures that I will always go home is the dog, I can't leave the dog for too long.

My closest friends also treat their dogs like a child and we get together and have days where we orientate it so the dogs can come, hiking and stuff, it's great.
