I think you'd really enjoy Speed Grapher, if you're looking for action, fantasy and 'magic'. It's about a photographer who finds himself in a secret sex club, rescuing a girl who can turn people's greatest desires into some really warped superpower by kissing/sleeping with them. So like, a woman can turn into a pure diamond, a guy can sprout wings of blood, another wears a gimp suit and does really weird things... etc.
Soul Eater, Cowboy Bebop, Blood-C, Strike Witches, Future Diary, Fooly Cooly, Summer Wars and the Eva films might be up your alley as well. Also KING Steins;Gate.
And as far as an anime with a black lead, Michiko & Hatchin is great.
