Bullock was the perfect choice. She has androgynous features which lent well to the humanist themes and portrayal of Ryan Stone (a character who is only assigned gender by the audience and one line of dialogue indicating that Ryan is perceived as a woman).

You know before the digital age how EVERY major pop star did soundtrack singles? Often a more ''chart-friendly'' (generic) soundtrack single led into the actual album's first single. Examples from this century: American Pie/Die Another Day, Doesn't Really Matter, Can't Fight The Moonlight, Independent Women, Check On It, Lady Marmalade etc etc
