The crisis began in November when President Yanukovich decided to shun a trade pact with the European Union in favour of closer ties with Russia. He made huge Constitutional amendments to give himself more authority and power, clearly trying to establish dictatorship and making Ukraine a totalitarian state.
The opposition (supported by the majority of people) is pushing for a return to the 2004 constitution, which would mean President Yanukovych losing some of the powers he has gained since his election in 2010. People are fighting for the return of democratic regime.
