As the market shrinks every year by ~8% this milestone becomes harder and harder to achieve. How many more albums will reach 4 million this decade? How many artists can even get close to 4 Plat in the US these days? Adele has done it once (and reached even higher pinnacles), Eminem did it with Recovery but looks like falling well short with his latest album. MMII will likely reach 2Plat soon and at a stretch reach 3 Plat but 4 Plat looks like way too far. Lady Antebellum did it once but now struggle to sell even a fraction of that with their latest album.
Taylor is the only artist to achieve it consistently and even she might not reach this milestone again considering the continued market shrinkage for albums in the US. Once Red outsells Need You Now (which it will do within a few months), Taylor will have all 4 of her albums in the top 100 selling albums of the Century and 2 of the Top 4 selling albums this Decade. Considering she is still only 24, she has a potentially very long career still ahead of her. If the market had not shrunk massively since 2000, she would be selling Shania Twain-type numbers and would already be one of the biggest sellers in US music history.
