I would not want to know that someone I love would be kissing and getting intimate with someone else. When I'm dating someone I want to be the only person they make love to, I don't want to share. It's as simple as that.

If it's not in the agreement you shouldn't be going behind someones back. It's still a form of dishonesty so they shouldn't be surprised if they got left.

I think Dan is a bit of a moral relativist because I know from way before his partner proposed the idea of an open relationship and I don't know if he was 100% on board at first. I think it's tough because Dan is talking about real situations where after decades of commitment there is a slip up. It's not an easy thing but the way he's making it sound now kind of seems flippant, as if monogamy is this dated, dusty thing that crazies used to do, and "how much better is life now that everyone is free to **** anyone?" Those aren't necessarily good ideals.

Yes, for some people and situations it is unrealistic, but for others it isn't. I think it's important for people to know and understand what relationship styles are best for them and their partners of choice.

Cheating and monogamy are two different issues. Cheating is never OK, but you can be in a relationship with another person and have both people agree that the other can sleep with someone else is the situation arises. In that situation it isn't cheating, but if you have to lie about where you were whilst shagging your secret lover behind your partners back than that's cheating and is wrong, purely due to the dishonesty.
