The Last of Us should have been a movie
Finished the game a few days ago, and the entire time I felt like it could have been a great movie to watch.
The AI, gameplay, and crafting system were all shallow compared to the visual experience. But I guess that's what matters most now or days... how it looks, not how it plays.
Perched for the dlc when its free.

Echelon hew?
I do think this doesn't deserve its own thread considering there's already a TLOU thread for it.. Lemme call geo to report this thread.

I agree the game is fantastic but it shouldn't be a movie since video games are a more sophisticated form of story telling than movies

Well if it was, how would the stans claim its story is anything more than a B grade zombie movie plot?

Correct, it could have made a great movie (and hopefully will), but it makes an even better game.
I'll admit that the first part of the game "Summer" became a little too tedious to complete by the end of it with the constant waves of enemies, but after that, the game never ceases to get better with every passing moment.
This experience is better served for gameplay for the blatant fact that it is a survival horror game. If it was a film, you would not feel his pain, feel his desperation, feel his fear. Perhaps you did not feel that emotion anyway, but that is besides the point (because the overwhelming majority did).
Playing the game on Survivor, it felt like I was actually surviving in this world. It was challenging and brutal, but that is exactly the feeling they wanted to portray.
It makes the experience all the more beautiful by the end. The Last of Us being a game is important because it makes you feel like you are enduring and surviving every moment of this horrific world. In my opinion, it is worth every frantic push of a button, every last minute movement, and every time you can feel your palm sweating as your controller rumbles. You cannot experience that in film.

I agree with this so much. The storyline was flawless and was what boosted the gameplay, not the other way around

The AI isn't intelligent enough to invoke any real fear. The infected are less threatening and less frightening than the survivors that have perfect aim. There are moments where you can connect emotionally wight he main characters, but that is virtually always based on visuals and not gameplay. This is no different from what movies, television shows, and theatre can do. From a gameplay perspective, I never connected with the characters because the real-time actions were repetitive (you're either always hiding or always looking for a wooden crate for Ellie), and repetition does not make for a compelling experience.
This isn't a "bad" game, though. It's just that its visual are praised (which they should be), but not criticized for also being a crutch for weak and shallow gameplay.

The gameplay is not weak at all though. It is not particularly amazing and can be repetitive, but which game does not have repetitive gameplay? Nearly every game has it, so I do not see that as a huge issue. I am assuming you did not play the game on Survivor (well I pretty much know you did not), which is the best mode to play it on, but that is alright. It is still the most awarded game in history.

Anyone who says that the gameplay was mediocre is in complete and absolute denial.

If you think a game is too easy then why don't you turn up the difficulty sis
The game is plenty challenging on Hard.

The gameplay is fantastic. You probably fumbled around trying to get headshots for 20 hours without exploring the mechanics.

The gameplay was fantastic in parts yet repetitive in others but so is pretty much every game. Playing as Ellie while you have to deal with David the Psycho was frankly terrifying and brilliant. Standing on those broken dinner plates tho
Creating movies from video games usually results in a good movie (eg Resident Evil) or shite (eg Hitman) imo. The Last Of Us could be transferred well i think.
