what was the point of a remix... More sales?

They probably felt that the album version wouldn't do very well as a single due to it having already charted for 3 months prior to release and it having a (pretty much) unknown as a feature. So, basically, yes, it would've been for sales - but everything popstars do is for sales.

It's not a real remix, Pitbull did this for fun. Not official or being officially released.
