to try or test, especially in order to discover or prove something.
The remaining contestants had to send in a song that was their artist at their most testing and experimental. For some people that have an artist that don't really experiment, this was a bit tricky. Keep an open mind while voting.

I choose this song for Experimental Theme, it's probably the one that's completely different and stand out above her songs.
This is the closest to date that Taylor has gotten to goth, “Haunted” sounds more likely from its opening drum intro and sweeping strings to explode into an Evanescence power ballad than a T-Swizzle jam, but the look is a surprisingly good one for Taylor. “I think in the end it really captured the intense, chaotic feeling of confusion the we were looking for,” This definitely Taylor song’s big-budget orchestral production so far.

The song is called Cleopatra and I chose it because it's one of the few songs that is trying an Egyptian sound. The lyrics are also different that speak about different things than anything from her albums. She says that she will be strong for him and maybe the song has some sexual references too: "I turn the lights down low/Give you a little show". In fact, the song was wrote for another artist, but it did not see the light because Kelly's demo leaked.

Now I said I wouldn't pick this song, but how can I not?!?! Along with Ke$ha's unreleased song "Dancing With The Devil", "Machine Gun Love" has caught the attention of her Animal$ and has started her Revolu$hun against Dr. Luke. On the TV Show 'Ke$ha: My Crazy Beautiful Life' you can find that "Machine Gun Love" gets rejected from 'Warrior' because of its "different" round. This paved the way for Ke$ha to rebel and fight for her music, aspiring for a more Rock 'N Roll sound to her music along with hints of Alternative and Country - songs with more meaning, and a different sound from her typical music the General Public knows from her. As you can hear, "Machine Gun Love" has a Rock sound with an electric guitar leading and a live drum accompanying. Ke$ha uses a sing/rap style for the verses, while pouring her heart out in the choruses. Because of this vision, Ke$ha is currently in a battle against Dr. Luke for creativity. With "Machine Gun Love" being the turning point in Ke$ha's career, her future sound and musical direction is now questioned.

Rockstar 101 is Rated R's fifth single and it catches the album's experimental and moody undertones to perfection. The aggressive track is backed by Guns and Roses' Slash and is her most badass anthem.
Musically, it's her most experimental, it incorporates rock, metal and hip-hop. It's about her boasting about an incredibly strong personality, and a really good sense of style, fit for a rockstar.
Her rockstar persona is evident in the video, which is black themed and is heavily relying on bondage and voyeurism, it's also her most experimental one.

But P!nk was neve rinto R&B, she wanted to be somebody else, but LA Reid wanted her to stay the same. But P!nk wanted to show the world her true colors so she recorded "Missundaztood" it was a complete different P!nk, and with this song P!nk explains why she wanted to change. She didn't wanted to be the next pop girl, she wanted to be a different girl with her own style. She wanted to be special, and she clearly found her way. This song is experimental well because it was different, way different than her first album songs. A complete new style, which paid off.

Stepping away from her comfort-zone genres like Rock and Pop/Rock, on Demi's third album, Unbroken, she wanted a mature and more soulful sound, which lead her to experiment with R&B and Soul/Jazz producers. The product was an amazing handful of songs that have vibes from the genres Demi wanted.
My Love is Like a Star is one of the (and the most) experimental R&B songs on Unbroken, it's a fan-favorite AND a critically acclaimed piece. And that's not because this song is a sound that is new and fresh from Demi, rather, it's because of how TERRIFIC Demi's vocals suit the R&B sound. I provided a live video to prove how beautiful and vocally challenging this song is. On 2:30 and on wards, you get to witness Demi transforming into a Mariah Carey and slaying (especially at 2:50) these head notes.

I thought so too at first, but then I listened to it again. It's still a great choice. IKYWT. is the absolute perfect one tho.
Honestly this round is pretty weak. The songs are good, but not for this type of round. Some of the choices sorta make sense but then some simply don't add up.
@Rem/Jone - "Haunted" is still a good entry but "I Knew You Were Trouble" would've won this round with ease Unless Jone is saving that for later...
Yeah, I definitely feel the same way. IKYWT would've smashed this round and anyone who didn't save it would be considered a fool, but Haunted is still an accurate choice. I certainly think he has something up his sleeve and it's a strategical move. Save the bigger songs for later.

I can agree with this, but I guess he was mostly just pinpointing on that part of her career when she switched from R&B to a more pop-rock style. But if you go over her whole career, that sound doesn't sound even close to experimental for her.

.
Agreed.
I think he's saving IKYWT for an even bigger round. It's like how I used Drive for the emotional round, which left Wrecking Ball available for the Breakup Song round.
I think Jone is saving IKYWT for a round where he can pull a Wrecking Ball and smash the round with ease.
