Funny thing is DIL is not even done peaking. It's gaining in other countries all on its own. I wish beyonces label would be more on top of things like this.
One was released in the US with no payola, commercials etc and out peaked CRTFY (before the Grammy performance even happened). Plus it was a collaboration between two local RnB/Hip Hop artists with a US only release.
The fact you have to compare a collaboration between the so called Queen of Pop/2nd Madonna Icon herself and the most global pop girl to Drunk In Love to find some sort of solace is a drag in itself.
You're saying Beyoncé and Jay Z are local artist?
Goodbye.
Drunk in Love was a single released from an already existing and successful album. It is a collaboration but it also comes after a long line of collaborations between the two. CRTFY is a lead single that precedes an album. It is a new collaboration of two megastars. It was teased for a while, received a release and then subsequent music video that got lots of views mainly for the content of the video rather than the song itself. The video utilized the sex appeal of both it's stars to the max by inventing a fake lesbian storyline. DIL's video is rather simple. 1 location + 2 people + fog. It's sexy but much more natural to Beyonce and Jay-Z, leading me to feel that it's a lot less forced. It's not for attention, it's for fun. This is furthered by the fact that it is part of a visual album, one which sold a lot before this was even a single, thus dampening the singles success in my opinion.
So, given both circumstances, at this point I'd say that Drunk in Love is more of a hit. It really hit the public, whereas the public was hit with CRTFY.
DIL was released after the album's release so technically close to 1.5 million people owned the song legally before it was even officially released.
CRTFY was released before the album, people should be eating it up but they're not...
