Quote:
Emeli Sandé is set to embark on a pilgrimage to Mexico following in the footsteps of artist Frida Kahlo.
The Brit Award-winning singer songwriter, who has a large tattoo of the painter on her arm, is to front a film about her in a new run of ITV’s arts series Perspectives.
She will look at what drove her to create some of the most compelling works of 20th century painting. Speaking about the tattoo on her right forearm, she said: “Kahlo’s work is very raw."
“I think a lot of females feel, especially in this industry, that they have to be pretty, acceptable on all levels. To me, she embodies strength.”
The artist, who died aged just 47, has been an inspiration for many celebrities including Madonna and Salma Hayek, who beat off *competition from the Material Girl and Jennifer Lopez to play her in the 2002 film, Frida.
