I agree with the "good, quality R&B" statement. All R&B today sounds
exactly the same. It's so stale, both in lyrics and production, and that's why it doesn't sell well. Back when it was popular in the early 2000's, there was variety in R&B and there was quality. Now virtually all R&B is so generic -- it all sounds like Trey Songz. There's a reason why "Royals" took off and why Drake does so well -- because their R&B-influenced records are lyrically updated and offer quality and variety that makes their music stand out and crossover. R&B just needs fresh ideas. (Remember "Bust Your Windows" from Jazmine Sullivan, not too long ago?) For instance, the fact that an artist like Sevyn Streeter is even a thing in R&B is a tragedy.
