Right now, the formula is not E=MC2 but Hit=Timbaland.

Although everyone shd realized by now that Timbaland's magic didn't exactly work on everybody.It seems like Ryan Tedder is now the most sort-after producer. Yay to great music.

True. It happens so many times that people "learn to love" a song just because they hear it so much on the radio.

I wonder what radio would be like if they wouldn't stick to their 30 song playlists and just play what people are requesting. There's internet radio, but it's not the same.

I think they're just lazy to expand their playlists and stick with the same 30 weekly. It eventually gets tiresome and people want something fresh.....but NOT stupid songs.

The Hot Digital Songs is a better chart than the Hot 100 because it correctly shows what people like. The Hot 100 is to heavily based on airplay. Which is wrong. We don't have a full say in what gets played.

This is true, but it is still affected by what's on the radio. Almost always airplay results in sales rather than the other way around. Radio should play a larger variety of songs and then give more spins to what the listeners want rather than the record labels.

You should also blame the Radio listeners/Music buyers in America. Their taste is very generic. Most of them would prefer to hear a song that they've heard like it before. It encourages the artists and their producers to become lazy as well. Thats why you don't see them bringing an Amy Winehouse or Lily Allen in one year. Instead; you hear dozens of "Irreplaceable" and "We belong Together" wannabes. Unlike the UK, for example, where there's always a chance for a fresh sound.

If radio support an artist like britney then she have all top ten hits. Britney went top ten on iTunes with gimme more and piece of me . Gimme more went n1 on iTunes in just hours and piece of me went n7. Radio is a ****.

It's their preference. Americans love the hip hop influence, Europeans prefer dance-driven music, However; they're more creative and most of their artists tend to be experimental with their sound. Pop/Dance music is even more complicated in its structure than hip hop/rnb music which is based on 2 heavy beats.

I think that having 5 top 5 hits will guarantee that your sixth single will be given a shot at radio. It's then up to call out and actual listener requests to carry it up the charts. In my opinion, if "All That I Got" was released i/o "Finally," we wouldn't be having this discussion. I love Fergie, but "Finally" sounds like a soundtrack song to some Disney movie. Soundtrack songs worked in the 90's. I knew this song wasn't gonna be a hit.

Earworm. That hook was just infectious! Flo's not even a good rapper, but that darm hook was so singable. That's really the only part of the song that most people know. I mean, "Elevator," doesn't have a strong hook and the production wasn't anything like "Low." As a result, he's flirting with "one hit wonder" status.

Well, it depends on how you look at it. R&B and hip hop is so disposable. I mean, for a few exceptions, most of the rhythmic stuff runs its course after three or four months. Rock music can chart for 25, 30, sometimes even 35 weeks or more! Some of the longest-running songs have been by rock artists (Nickelback, Finger Eleven, Daughtry). No they didn't hit #1, but they've hung around much longer than many of their rhythmic counterparts.

You know there's a small-town station I listen to that's top 40, but leans more rock. They have 80 songs on their playlist. The most played song gets spun 58x/wk. They have a more eclectic playlist because of this. http://kf99kq105.com/k/page.asp?p=KFKQ%20MUSIC

I wished more stations played a bigger variety of music. It's kind of hard to get bored with radio when you have so many different songs to listen to.
