What do you think people about when a good song flops and a bad song become a hit?

First of all "Heartbreaker" by will.i.am isn't a flop, because it hasn't even been released in the US. Second I get really pissed off if a song like "Say Somethin'" flops and at the same time "SOS" is #1. (At the time I didn't like "SOS", but now I do! ) And I love Lil Wayne at #1, so if you hate it, it's your problem.

I don't hate lollipop but its not amazing. Heartbreaker is a great song listen

I don't understand the US charts at all some times, like you'd think the fact that Fergie's had 5 top 5 hits on the Hot 100 would guarantee success for whatever her next single would be, but of course, Finally flopped

We can go on and on about how songs like "Lollipop", "Low" and Fergie's tracks did soo well.

They are all GREAT TRACKS. Low also holds the record for the most sold downloads in one week, which was close to 500,000

And that makes that **** good? The answer is no.

And if almost 500,000 people downloaded and everyone loved them, god you guys are making it so complicated.

Right now, we can all sum up the issue by saying the music industry is dominated by RnB and HipHop. Pop and Rock are so yesterday to music fans. Well...not me saying but the Hot 100 speaks for itself.

He's only really had one official single here in the States. "Break Anotha" never had the makings of a hit, but his label should invest some payola into "How Many Words" because that song is a bona fide success, and could easily get him to gold status.

There are so many variables in determining a song's success on the charts. For instance, "Say Somethin'" was pretty good, albeit a bit too dull for mainstream radio + TEOM had already been out for nearly a year before that became a single so by that time, most people had already heard and played the song ad nauseum.

I really want "Heartbreaker" to do well..

The problem is at this point almost all r&b and hip-hop songs are just about overrated. Lollipop, Low and Crank That were all horrendous!

It depends. The U.S. charts, in general, reflect the amount of exposure these songs are getting. As opposite to the quality factor which takes the least percentage in a hit song. Pop radio will play anything and the urban radio is selective and dominating. The likes of Mariah Carey and Fergie had studied the so-called "hit formula" so well and they know how to release something so both radio formats would eat up. It also depends on how lucky some artists are, really. Pop radio drops a lottery every once in a while and decides to eat up a certain lucky artist until the next draw. (i.e. Kelly Clarkson in 2005, Nelly Furtado in 2006-2007, Fergie in 2007 etc..). The industry's standards have changed alot within the past 8 years or so. It has become so unpredictable.

America's taste in music is unpredictable...
