Maybe you ask him about it and talk with him. He's obviously uncomfortable with being whichever race he is.

I have a friend who is a compulsive liar and will say anything to get your attention. I try not to judge him for it because I know at home he has issues with his father leaving and his mother isn't a very good one. I like to support him whenever I can and I call him out on his lying. Because of me actually caring for him and talking with him, he doesn't lie very often anymore.
Moral of the story: Your friend may have issues he hasn't talked about. Ask him and be there for him. Most likely he'll breakdown and tell you everything.
but he's such a nice person they just always stereotype and give him such a hard time in airports and stuff
