The Telephone hype was all right but it built to untenable levels with BTW and then ARTPOP. She pushed hype to the brink then it pushed right back, that is the nature of hype.

Also, I don't like Katy b/c she's a harmful artist (if you're simple-minded you'll hopefully understand what this means one day) but her ability to score back to back megahits is astounding.

BR was huge, but it's true it wasn't anticipated. The video definitely elevated Gaga from regular to icon overnight. Telephone was hyped and was an event. I don't think she's had a video as hyped since. Maybe BTW - but the hype for that song alone was just
