you can see saint petersburg on google street, the urban fabric is beautiful but it surely needs some touch of life it looks a bit depressing, very few people around

Not true. But in the russian suburbs, there were only super high flats and poor people. It was sad to see, tbh. We had to go from the airport to the city centre in this awful bus and we went through a few suburbs.
I had the pleasure of going St. Petersburg in October and some parts are beautiful, when I went it looked quite grey and gloomy though and some parts are scary as hell..
