Oh no I was talking about another college I go to. I was using Ottawa U as an example, but yeah tuition there for like bio med is around 10/11k.

If you are smart enough and have good grades. Getting into a top school means you won't pay any tuition. So any top 20 school especially the ivies will pay for your tuition if you meet the financial requirements. Which are relaxed.

Also state schools aren't very expensive but are harder to get into. California has the best state schools.

Because you're international it can be easier since you're bringing in diversity to the campus. Also pay attention to where you plan to attended. Cities like LA and NY are very expensive.

ermm unfortunately not really... I got into an ivy and they only gave me $8k in financial aid

(of the 62k)

like i'm not poor, but I'm also not rich enough that I can afford all that..

my parents make good decent money - middle class - but also have a mortgage and lots of other things to pay for

..

Do not go to the states. Their universities are so damn expensive for no reason. Come in Canada instead! If you decide to enroll at McGill University for instance, you won't pay more than $1500 for one semester depending on your program.

I've applied to a few but haven't heard back. Unfortunately ivy league institutions (or atleast UPenn) don't give merit-based scholarships

Yeah because every student would get them so its understandable. Yeah just keep applying. But UPenn is a damn good school, try applying to other similar top schools. If you can't and all else fails go to your safety or take a loan (if you're serious about it, some schools like UPenn make a worthy investment).
