You obviously don't realize that in recent years, all of the presidents have had celebrities at the White House and mingle with them. Celebrities have a lot of influence and power. They don't go to Washington D.C. just to hang out -- they go so that they can be a part of certain projects and initiatives. Sometimes they are also hired for entertainment or they are recognized for their achievements.
