I know it's a pop music forum but let's get serious here.

What do you study? Do you think it's worth studying medicine for 10 years? I am confused in every way. My plan b is film directing but I don't think it has much perspective.

-Has any of you studied medicine/film directing?
-What would you study if you were interested in biology/chemistry, painting, film-making and maths??

I feel like going into the health care field in general may suit you better than specifically a doctor. ie. working for pharmaceutical companies or other health care product/service companies.. something along the lines of product development or the consumer experience.. that would give you more creative freedom which I sense is important to you.

I'm currently taking my pre-med course. Take medicine. Tough but fun. ^.~

I am right now studying medecine, I love it, and I don't see myself doing anything else.
But not everybody is made for studying 10 years.. It depends on what you want... Or you can do both.
I mean you can be a doctor and studying film class after..

I would take medicine but I'm scared of those 10 years. It feels like I'll have no spare time and will end up alone in a hospital lol

Omg I have the exact same dilemma: I'm interested (and good mind you) at psychology but film directing/music video directing is where my passion lies.

I would advise you to get a degree in medicine as a back up plan and then branch into the film industry. I've decided that I'll be doing a bachelors in Psychology and if I enjoy it I'll continue studying to become a psychiatrist etc but if I feel like I still want to direct, then I'd take the film route (by taking small classes and buying a good camera etc).

I read somewhere that studying Film to become a film director is NOT a wise choice.

Listen to this poster. I studied Biochemistry & Molecular Biology for my Undergrad and Molecular Medicine for my MSc. I work for a biotech company now and I'm earning good money and have a job I really love. Meds were allowed take gap years to study for the same MSc as me and were all so behind on science work because it's so clinical rather than scientific.

A big part of going into med should be wanting to help people and interact with patients on a non-scientific level. The biology you learn will be mostly anatomy, and really a love of chemistry tends to not be nourished at all in medicine.

I'm in the biology/chemical field right now. I like it a lot, I don't plan on changing. Do what you want and don't let others sway you into a path that you don't feel right for.

and I looked for job vacancies for psychiatrists and I found this job where you'd get £120,000 ($200,000) annually (prior to having shittons of qualifications etc).

I hope you know that requires medical school, and thus that mandates a huge other set of requirements in math/biology/chemistry. Way different than what is required for psychology alone. I was advised by my college counselor that if I were to switch to psychology, I'd have to aim for at least a Master's if I wanted a job ever.

Luckily in my country we only study medicine for 5-6 years. Go for your passion. If you don't think you can handle pressure, then my advice is don't take medicine.

I think you're at perfect position: you're interested in psychology and studies don't last 10 years like medicine. Then just go with the film-making route and start a new life in LA or something.

I was accepted to film school, but now i'm studying the history of art and am premed. it works out much better in the long run, really.

Where do you live? I'd study abroad.

No problems at all! Uppsala really is a great university (in a flawless country *cough*). Get a bachelors and see what happens... you don't want to get into film directing (and spending loads of money on a film degree) and then realising that it isn't for you.

Well, and you also have to be realistic. It isn't easy studying medicine or getting into medical school. It's almost funny, everyone as a freshmen is so eager to say they're getting into medicine and going on to be a doctor or surgeon, but so many of those students drop it, realize they can't do it, or straight up can't get in because it's so arduous to do so.

My advice: if you want to go into medicine, make sure you really want to go into it. Don't waste your time and effort if it's not something you love. You will have to work hard for it.

It's different in England I think; universities only require Psychology (as an A-Level) and advise people to have Biology too.
For example, to do a MSc in Psychology in a university like UCL (which is the 4th best university in the world), they require a "minimum of an upper second-class Bachelor's degree from a UK university in Psychology, or in another relevant social, clinical or life science discipline".
