Will music ever have a female as influential as Madonna?
Madonna is the biggest female pop singer and so far no one has come far.
Do you think that the musical world will have a female artist that :
-Is as huge as Madge in her prime?
- Sells as much records (or singles)
- Redifine music
- Voices social issues?
- Is a fashion icon and pioneer?
- And continue to influence musical acts that comes after?
ALSO: This female artist is original and isn't compared to Madonna.
Please elaborate.

Rihanna.
-Is as huge as Madge in her prime?: Yes, she's the definitive pop star of her generation.
- Sells as much records (or singles): She has already sold over 200M records worldwide at 25.
- Redefine music: Yes, she brought back dance music and pioneered dubstep in popular music.
- Voices social issues?: Yes, she is currently partnered with MAC to raise AIDS awareness and has spoken out against sexual abuse against women through her art in the past.
- Is a fashion icon and pioneer?: Of course. She has been on Vogue US cover 3 times and of course she pioneers popular trends in fashion and music.
- And continue to influence musical acts that comes after?: Yes. Miley Cyrus, Nicole Scherzinger, Rita Ora, and Selena Gomez cite her as influences.

Rihanna the icon, will sell 20 million of r8 and seize the crown.
But I think if Adele is consistent she could take it.

the closest we've seen is Britney, and maybe Gaga. But no one can not argue that Madonna has influenced every single female artist that is out there right now, directly or indirectly, because she has.

Yes of course.
But we have to wait until some revolution happens to the music industry before another one can be so influential.
In my opinion, what really made her so influential, was the beginning of the MTV era and her mastery of reinvention and shock and controversy to get interest. Right now everyone is just mimicking that and so anyone can't have her level of influence. But let's say some new invention affects the music industry and a female comes and takes advantage of it and sustains success then viola, another influential female on Madonna's scale.

I think that this goes beyond sales and statistics. If that were the case then people like Whitney, Celine, Shania, Mariah would all be as influential as Madonna. While they are influential none have the Madonna-type influence where popstars are seemingly forever in her mould.
That means that Adele will be more of a legendary and not influential artist. Britney and Gaga are just further iterations of Madonna's blueprint, not a whole new force that changes the industry more than sparking specific trends. Rihanna with her incredible amount of hits and icon status isn't influencing the music industry in any way that can be compared to Madonna.

Do you really think Adele can do what Madonna has done? Adele for all we know could be our generations Norah Jones. Even at the end of the day, the only think Adele has to her credit is album sales. But yet she hasn't redefined what is it to be a pop girl. She has yet to make any true pop culture moments, and we have yet to see an immediate change in the industry from her. Not to mention we really have no idea how she could sell next album. She could even become a Celine Dion and sell lots of albums but fall behind from others who out impacted and influenced others more. Like Whitney and Mariah did.

Hm. Nothing against Rihanna here but I disagree with all of this. Rihanna certainly ticks all these boxes but I can't say she owns any of them in the way Madonna has.
In regards to being as huge as Madonna, she is defiantly one of the top popstars of the world. But there are many of those (Gaga, Katy, Beyonce all come to mind as being as huge in different ways). She has sold many records too, but then again many people sell lots of records and I don't think people ever think of Madonna's selling power when they think about her legacy as a pop artist. When it comes to redefining music, Rihanna was at the forefront of the dance craze but I wouldn't say SHE brought it back nor that she pioneered dub step in popular music. That's a lofty claim. She may have done stuff for social issues but just about every popstar does that at one point. This is not unique it's like a socialite doing charity work. Not to mention that she has not been as vocal and/or active as Madonna and no one is going to think about social issues and pop music and go to Rihanna in their mind. When it comes to fashion she's also sparked trends but the Madonna 80s look is iconic, I don't think any of Rihanna's styles define a generation as Madonna's had. And lastly, any big enough popstar is going to have imitators and influence on newer popstars. What separates that from Madonna's influence is that Madonna basically made the blueprint for all the popstars of today. Simply having a song that sounds similar to someone else's is not the same.

Well Whitney, Mariah, and Shania are very influential to music. Madonnas impact is mostly visual and can be seen. The impact Whitney and Mariah left are what's heard. Though Shanias impact isn't as big as Madonnas, she paved the way and made it for other artists to be extreme county pop crossover recording artists. Such as Taylor Swift.
Here's how I look at this. When comparing an artists influence and impact, try taking them out of the picture. For example would music be different today if Madonna never exsisted. Which it would... None of the pop girls today would be what they are. Take someone like Norah Jones (who is extremely talented, don't get me wrong) but if she never exsisted how different would it be today? There wouldn't be any difference. And why I say Britney and Gaga is because they did make impact and have influence. All of the new pop girls today, such as Miley, Katy, Gaga, Selena Gomez, etc have listed Brit has influences and on many occasions. If Britney never exsisted the pop girl music industry would be different. Same goes for the trend in the early 00s that was the "anti - Britney" trend that produced Nelly Furtado and Avril. People like Christina, Avril, Miley, Gaga, Katy wouldn't have happened. Now in this am I saying Brit has just as much influence as Madonna? No, of course not. But Brit and Gaga have the closest thing we have to that huge pop industry influence of Madonna.

I don't think she has been born yet.
You have to realize how big of a change it was for the industry to go from selling albums based on what they sound like and maybe some TV performances vs. MTV's broadcasting of newly created visuals to accompany, stimulate and titilate the audiences into wanting to buy into the song/album/superstar.
If your fave is prettier than her voice is good, then she has MTV to thank. Madonna (and MJ and many others) ushered in this new wave of music-making under the glitz of music videos. All of the 1970's earthiness went away in favour for big sets, neon, excessive clothing, etc. Until there comes a new way that music is being sold for popstars other than by promoting public image there can't be a new Madonna.

Ah. I see your points. Pop music certainly would be different without Britney Spears.
