It wasn't too much of a last minute malfunction, it would have affected the cameras and lighting. Perhaps it was an early idea that was shot down once they realized that it wasn't possible.

How so? The soundboard is nowhere near the stage, the cameras were not on that platform with her and the lighting is also placed far away from the stage. Are you forgetting when Pink got soaked in water during her 2010 performance of Glitter In The Air?
