Is this a joke? You're comparing a dark 3rd single from an already successful release (which sold around the same as TD despite being an 8 track ep with 3 singles) to a generic summery lead single. Bad Romance slayed California Girls, especially globally (BR was #1 European year end the year CG was released, while CG was number 14), and both Alejandro and BR are more remembered.
Gaga's peak era was huge and ended with You and I. Katy's bigger now but Gaga's hardly trying to beat her at all; and even when Katy's bigger she's still nowhere near the biggest.
