I think vocally Madonna is probably slightly better, at least during the begging of her career she was, but now it's seems about even but than again control had some of Janet's best vocals on there so I can't really say. I think it's just a matter of who's ballads you perfer better, because neither one of them are pure vocalist but I just prefer Janet's ballads better.

I agree. I grew up on Janet for awhile, I mean I was only born in 91', but my parents were Janet fans, so i've grown up watching her concerts, music videos, and hearing her music. And I must say, Janet has alot of soul in her concerts, theres something that she gives that ALOT of other popstars and singers just don't bring to the table.

What is the purpose of a performance? To entertain the audience or show them how good you sing? I mean whats the purpose of buying the single or album? I'd rather see a great show with okay vocals, as long as the performer can back it up with an amazing show.

This speaks for Madonna. Take it as you will. =)

As for the better performer, Janet. The reason Madonna has been so successful though is because of her elaborate sets and obviously the changing of her image over the years.

Janet changes but it has always been about the hardcore dancing/ difficult choreography.

Seriously, Janet has songs from earlier in her career where her singing voice is actually pretty strong. After Damita Jo I'm not sure what happened, perhaps what is starting to happen to Mariah and Whitney?

After so much singing it begins to take its toll. Even for someone with a not so powerful, pop voice. I'll admit I think Madonna's voice has improved over time, but then again she never was really overexerting herself.

Madonna is an icon, i can barely remember a well-singed janet song , based in dance Janet all the way, i love her choreographies All Nite is awsome. but as an overall performer Madonna

Janet used to be a better dancer than Madonna. Now she's just mediocre. Other than that, Madonna will always be the better performer, singer and entertainer than Janet will ever be. Plus Madonna's music has aways been relevant and revolutionary while I find most of Janet's music boring and forgettable.
