Ashlee Simpson - Ash and Pete ENGAGED! + talks about BW
ASHLEE SIMPSON AND PETE WENTZ ARE FINALLY ENGAGED:
Message:
"We know there has been a lot of speculation recently about Pete and I and we wanted our fans to be the first to know, because you guys are the best. Yes, we are thrilled to share that we are happily engaged. Thank you for all of your support and well wishes - it means the world to us. We consider this to be a very private matter, and we wanted to be the first to tell you and to hear it straight from us."
- Ashlee and Pete
In Touch:
In Touch can exclusively reveal that Ashlee Simpson is engaged to boyfriend Pete Wentz! “He got down on one knee and she said yes,” a family friend tells In Touch. The couple went away to Colorado just days ago where Pete’s brother had an art exhibit, and that is where Pete, 28, popped the question to Ashlee, 23. “She has an amazing ring, and they are so in love,” adds the friend. And Ashlee’s parents, Joe and Tina, not only approve but are thrilled! The couple that started dating in October 2006, have not set a date for the wedding just yet.
Ashlee’s rep confirmed the news to In Touch, ”It’s true.”
People:
Simpson's father, Joe, tells PEOPLE he's "totally happy" and "so excited to have Pete as part of (our) family."
"We are blessed," he says.
Simpson, 23, and Wentz, 28, the bassist for Fall Out Boy, have been a linked since the fall of 2006, when they were spotted kissing at a New York nightclub
Friends First
"I think the first day that we met that we were attracted to each other," Simpson recently told PEOPLE.
Because they were with other people, "Neither one of us did anything," said Wentz. "That was good." But they quickly became friends, even as Wentz found that "I was into everything about her." Simpson felt the same way.
"He's a cutie," said Simpson, "and he has an awesome personality and kind of brings out the best of me and I knew that even before we were dating. There was just like an awesome connection we had."
A year later, they were still going strong. "We're past the honeymoon period," Wentz told PEOPLE at the time. "The truth is, it's crazy to be able to kiss your best friend. It's just a really awesome thing."
Speculation that they were engaged began last February when Simpson, the little sister of Jessica Simpson, was seen wearing a diamond ring on her engagement finger. At the time, she said it was a promise ring and that, "It just means that he hasn't asked my dad yet."
Ashlee Simpson talks about Bittersweet World:
Ashlee Simpson is right where she wants to be in life. Our favorite Simpson sister is engaged to Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz. Her latest album, “Bittersweet World,” hits stores April 22 and, despite the implication of the CD's title, she has never been happier. Ashlee Simpson’s name has been everywhere for nearly a decade. From the notorious – “Saturday Night Live” lip-synching -- to the fabulous, her single "Outta My Head" serving as one of the most delicious dancefloor anthems in recent years, this superstar is simply getting started.
She's not just sticking to music, either. On April 22, the same day of her new album release, Ashlee is launching her own clothing line with Wet Seal. And, after a very visible courtship, the 23-year-old just announced her engagement to Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy.
After gracing the covers of magazines such as Rolling Stone and People, Ashlee Simpson sat down with SheKnows to share her views on beauty, celebrity, music and, of course, her style secrets.
SheKnows: After your last two records debuted at number one, did that put a lot of pressure on you in the recording process?
Ashlee Simpson: No, I didn't feel any pressure with this record. For me, I made the record that I wanted to make this time. It definitely puts less pressure on me, actually. Because I’ve already hit number one, I felt I could do what I wanted with this CD.
I wanted to make a fun record. I wanted to make a record people could dance to and I wanted to work with great creative people. I got to work with Chad Hugo from the Neptunes, Kenna, and Timbaland and his crew and this amazing writer that goes by Jim Beam. It was a group of cool, creative people. It was a great thing for me and I am really happy with the results.
SheKnows: I interviewed Kenna a few months ago, and he spoke highly of you. What was it about his music, background and expertise that drew you to him?
Ashlee Simpson: I think Kenna is so talented and creative. It was one of those things that was really meant to be. I thought he would completely understand me. That is sometimes hard to find. With this record, he could teach me something, I could teach him something (laughs) and we could learn from each other. His music is incredible. Read more.

So we'll see Ash in the covers of that magazines?

Ashlee on her last Album:
When I last interviewed Ashlee Simpson for HX in October 2005, the barely 21-year-old continued to shirk her older sister's shadow with a sophomore CD, I Am Me, and a spunky lead single—and gay favorite—"(Didn't Steal Your) Boyfriend." Just a few days earlier, she had redeemed her infamous lip-synching debacle by returning to the SNL stage with a killer live performance. A lot's changed since that fall, including some physical transformations that—to use her own words to Us Weekly—are pretty obvious "as long as people have two eyes." Putting the punk in her past, she also made a well-received professional stage debut as Roxie Hart in London's Chicago, and she can currently be seen rocking a "promise ring" from Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz. Now, as the reality show survivor prepares to release her dancey third disc, Bittersweet World (on which she collaborated with the likes of Timbaland, Chad Hugo and Kenna), Simpson squashes some sticky rumors and la las about her latest L.O.V.E.
HX: I believe Bittersweet World's your gay-friendliest album yet.
Ashlee Simpson: It is, right? I thought so, too. I always bring it with my songs, and I think "Boys" might be an anthem. Last time we had "Boyfriend" and "L.O.V.E.," the time before we had "La La"—my girlfriend would call me and be like, "I'm at a gay club and they're playing 'La La!'" And I'm like, "Oh, yes!"
"Boys" is such a fun "on the prowl" club song. Do you miss those perks of being single?
I don't miss that, because I've had that, and now I've got the cutest boyfriend in the world. It's always more fun when you have a great person to go home to.
Who's your closest gay friend?
Ooh, that's tough. Probably my friend James in California. We go out to dinners, shopping, all that good stuff.
I thought it might be your hairstylist, Ken Pavés.
Oh, we may have a tie! Ken is definitely up there. Ken is the most exciting person to have around. He's so much fun and brings the best energy, and he has the best heart. Ken is like a family member to me—like the long lost Simpson sister.
Rumor control: Is Jessica really getting inseminated with Ken's sperm? Because that would be one well-coiffed child.
No, that's not true. It would be cute, but it's not true.
Could I get away with wearing one of your new tops coming out at Wet Seal?
Well, I haven't seen all of them. I didn't really design them or anything, which I'm definitely going to do in the future, but there are some that are cute. I like them.
I understand that your stint in Chicago inspired the new album.
Yeah, with the storyline and a bit of the cattiness and whatnot—you can hear a bit of that on the record. Doing Chicago is one of the things I'm most proud of myself for doing; doing something so out of my element was awesome.
I was excited when I heard about a pseudo-alter ego named Vicky Valentine on the new album because she sounded like a drag queen, but then you dismissed her. Why'd you kill Vicky?
Vicky stills exists, but it's like a joke in the studio—like, whenever I'm recording and I get my attitude on, because I'm not really a tough girl. I wasn't doing a Garth Brooks thing. People were like, "Oh, you have an alter ego?" I'm like, "No!"
Your new single "Little Miss Obsessive" explores a "break up to make up" relationship. In your experience, do you need a little drama to keep things spicy?
It's better without it, but we've definitely all been there. It's like when you stick your foot in your mouth and take it too far, and you're like, "Wait, that was serious. That wasn't a silly fight." And you wish you could take your words back, but then when you can't, you're like, "Okay, I'm going to call this person a million times."
Can you give me a preview of the video?
I can't yet, but it'll be pretty—and with lots of good clothes! We're going to shoot it in the next few weeks.
Your video for "Outta My Head (Ay Ya Ya)," with its shrink's office and loony bin, concerns me that you're about to snap like Britney under the media scrutiny.
Oh, gosh, no—and I did that video before Britney [was hospitalized]. Then I was like, "Whoa, that happened to her!" It was just a concept—it wasn't me. I'm in a very good place; I'm very happy with good friends and good people around me. But I love to come up with video concepts. One day I would love to be a director and write my own screenplay.
Your boyfriend Pete has said in interviews that he has no qualms kissing other guys. I, of course, have no problem with that. How about you?
Well, he doesn't! We only kiss each other. Guy or girl—only us! [Laughs]
Do you mind those gay rumors or that so many gay guys wish Pete were gay?
It doesn't bother me, because he doesn't act—I mean, I think I'd be more of the gay man in the relationship. He definitely wears the man-shoes in the relationship, which is great. I love that guys love him, too—that's wonderful. It's flattering.
How are you the gay man, Ashlee?
I am about everything! Like how I get excited about things—like shopping—and how I always want to talk… I'll be like, "Aren't you so excited right now?!"
Do you keep up with your own relationship on the gossip blogs?
I don't keep up with it too much anymore, because it's just not that exciting, you know? If I'm really super-bored, then I'll check it out, but usually no.
How much did Pete influence the sound on the new record?
If he would've influenced that, I probably would've made a totally different record. But there are many other ways that he inspires me—through music, writing, and just watching him. But I would never try to sound like him.
Might you start covering each others' songs in concert? That would be sickeningly cute.
[Laughs] Probably not. We'll stick to watching each other.
If you want the media to get off your back about getting married, you should pull a Brad Pitt and declare that you won't marry until all gays can legally marry.
I can't make that deal, but I will definitely stand for you on that one. They definitely should be able to.
Fair enough. Your character in 2005's Undiscovered was originally supposed to be a lesbian, but her sexuality got nixed. Are you at a safe place in your career where you'd play a lesbian now?
Yeah, I definitely would. And I would've with that character as well, but it was a little too obvious—but I tried to butch it up a little bit! I would definitely go for it now. I would like to take chances with my acting career.
Which actress would you choose for your onscreen love interest?
Oh, gosh! I think I'll go with the answer that every woman goes with—Angelina Jolie. She's got those huge lips and everything, so I'd go with her for sure.

Jessica Simpson couldn't be happier for Ashlee and Pete:
The day after Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz announced their engagement, their loved ones say they couldn't be happier about the news.
"My sister is overflowing with joy," says Ashlee's older sister, Jessica Simpson. "Pete is an incredible soul. They naturally bring out the best in each other. I couldn't be happier."
And their dad, Joe, weighed in from Augusta, Ga., where he is in town watching the Masters golf tournament with Jessica's beau, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo. He confirms that Wentz, the bassist for Fall Out Boy, asked his permission to propose to Ashlee.
"[Pete] did ask me," says Joe. "I told him that I would be honored to have him as part of my family."
Yesterday the newly engaged couple posted a statement on friendsorenemies.com saying, "We are thrilled to share that we are happily engaged. Thank you for all of your support and well wishes – it means the world to us. We consider this to be a very private matter, and we wanted to be the first to tell you and to hear it straight from us."

I have been dumbfounded why Ashlee has been doing better in Europe then in the USA. I figured it out though...it's because of when she did Chicago. She got rave reviews from Chicago and also she went out and met the fans. She signed lots and lots of autographs and didn't have this attitude she has with the fans in the USA. This is why Ashlee's problems in the USA are all her own fault. It was all over the internet and radio how rude Ashlee was to her fans and how she wouldn't sign autographs and meet her fans.
Britney can get away with being like that...Ashlee can't.

The 30 sec. clips of 'Bittersweet World' are sounding good.
I'm loving "Rule Breaker", "Ragdoll", "Hot Stuff", and "Murder".
