What rock and roll values did they compromise? These are all 50+ year-old men who have been in the business for ages - AGES - before either of us (well, obviously you) were born. I don't know why you think RHCP - or any band with "rock n roll values," as you put it - has to subscribe to this ethos you dreamed up.
They're not some scuzzy punk upstarts playing garages in their cul de sacs, nor have they ever gone on record as anti-establishment so I don't see where your argument is coming from. You have none.
The RED. HOT. CHILI. PEPPERS are no less pop stars than Bruno Mars or, say, Justin Bieber. If they weren't as big as they are/were and didn't appeal to as broad a swath of Americans as they did, do and will continue to, they wouldn't have been green lighted for The Big Game from jump.
