That sounds quite logical. I mean, most straight guys probably will be watching it either way. It just can't be a performance that will actually make them change channel and only return for the second half, that's all.
Who cares if her current album is flopping? Her career has been impressive enough that she has plenty of recognizable, huge songs to fill up a performance, including Applause which NEEDS to be performed.
People do too much. Gaga isn't "hated" by the GP, she's just not in their full radar at the moment. Give her time and the wounds will be healed. A Halftime performance seems possible in the next 3 years. I will be an opportunity Gaga will have that your faves can't even get after being so "loved" and supported by the supposed GP.

Gaga would probably kill it but we have to face it that people really aren't here for her.
Hopefully she can quickly start a new era and get the opportunity but i think she will stick with the Artpop era for a few years.
She needs to get herself together and collected first.
