An indie-rock, alternative-country/Cowpunk album. Every song concentrates on lyrics and meaning rather than hooks
Dumb Blonde
1. "
Pedals & Thorns"- A cowpunk/indie rock song about how the pedals are worth the thorns. But in turn about how sometimes the pedals distract you from the pain of the thorns
2. -"
Dumb Blonde"- A punk rock powerful uptempo. One of the "harder" sounding song. Subject wise is about her media-scurinty, inaccuracy of her public image, and the general misogyny she deals with on a daily basis. Apparently she "just goes off". Seems partially linked to that magazine quote where she said something along the lines of " a woman writing about her feelings in a confessional way - that's taking it and turning it and twisting it into something that is frankly a little sexist."
3. "
Heartbeat"- A song about sex, a sensual, yet classy and dignified version of it. Very stripped down, acoustic/alt country-pop
4. "
Open Arms" - a bluegrass-pop-rock song about forgiving someone and welcoming them back "with open arms"
5. "
Nashville" - A reworked version of a song she wrote in 2005, running nearly 7 minutes long the traditional country ballad tells the story of a lover who left you alone in town and how she can't go anywhere because it just reminds her of him. The ending of the song finds the girl packing her bags and moving far away, to start brand new
6. "
Clear Sky" - A cowpunk midtempo about a feeling of relief after finally getting through a tough period in your life
7. "
Just South of Knowing Why" - Another previously unreleased song about depression and suicide equating thoughts of suicide to thoughts of just driving into the night and never looking back
8. "
Front Page" - a punk-rock midtempo with a big climax. Talks about the perils of fame, lies and media that she has witnessed in her career
9. -"
Lover Lover"- A pleading power ballad which begins as a sort of soft- pro-grass ballad and swells into a passionate, devastating arena rock song. Speaks of a long lost lover who you frequently denied their attempts at building a bridge, only to realize that once they give up and are truly gone, they are all that you can think about.
10. "
Stand" - An indie-rock/alternative uptempo, A feminist anthem about the objectification of women, mistreatment by men, her dating life scrutiny. Also deals with self-image of girls, and the way media portrays this. Talks about eating disorders, and self-esteem.
11. "
Wallflower" - Another alt-country ballad, talks about being left out, abandoned by people you thought were friends. Talks about loneliness, isolation and being ignored
12. "
Firecrackers" - A country-pop-rock song in the vein of Sparks Fly, talks about immense irresistible chemistry you have with someone.
13. "
Thirteen" - A country-arena rock power ballad. Think State of Grace and Long Live's love child. Begins with a light harmonica intro, Complete with a psychedelic infused guitar solo drenched in distortion right before a powerful bridge. Hook said to go
"After that night it seems, All I see is Thirteen"
Speaks about how lucky she is to be where she is. How seeing 13 every where is a good sign. A love song to the fans and her band after her experience touring and keeping those memories forever.
