I don't think that's true. The only reason that the Beatles and Elvis might have MORE recognizable songs is because they've been pimped out posthumously. It's not like any of us were alive and listening to the radio back then to have a memory solely from that. It's the fact that we've heard these songs all over the place after they already ran their course.
For some reason, women don't get the same attention that men do when it comes to musical praise. I don't know that many Aretha Franklin or Tina Turner songs, and they're supposed to be the queens. Same goes for the Supremes. Their music doesn't get exposed the way Elvis and the Beatles' music does. I really think that there's an underlying sexism in the way we look at celebrities when it comes to women. Everyone is always much harder on women, wanting them to fail and discrediting their achievements.
But anyway, it seems like Elvis' camp are gonna go down kicking and screaming, because none of this will matter when Mariah gets #19 and they don't have a leg to stand on anymore.
