That's what she said, the truth is some stations would hear her real voice (the ones connected directly to the mic), some would hear the recording only (the ones that were far away from the mic), there are several that got to hear both at the same time, I was very impressed at how well Beyonce was able to match her pitches vibratos and all, the thing that gave it away was the wind and some mic pops.
And the reason she did was not because it was cold or anything, singing in a place like that gives off 1 second delay acoustics which would hinder both Bey's and the band's ability to hear all the pitches and rhythms correctly without f'ing up.
If she had practiced in the exact spot beforehand she could've done it, but she didn't have time too unfortunately...and at the end of the day she chose not to take Aguilera's path, which is pretty good since, in my opinion, she is seeing more success than the other girl at the moment.
