I find Pixar films manipulative, whereas Dreamworks films are wacky and funny.
It's hit or miss with DW though. Shrek, Shrek 2, Kung Fu Panda, How to Train Your Dragon and Madagascar 3 are flawless, but stuff like Shrek 3 and Shark Tale are the pits.
Having said that, since 2010, Pixar has been all miss.
The only other animation studio which competes, IMO, is Aardman, who are severely underrated.
EDIT: And Disney, but they wee awful since 2000 and have only just picked it up again.
